Harsh Generation by Grendel
Review:
"This is the Grendel album I've been waiting for. I've always wanted to like the albums, but they were missing something for me. I knew he/they would make something great though. Covering Zombie Nation showed musical smarts and enough of a sense of humor that I knew the potential was there. Harsh Generation delivers on it. I suspect the addition of other players makes a difference, but whatever happened, it worked. Hard, 
catchy, and intelligent about its themes. The album has significantly more oomph than the previous releases, and much higher production values that make the songs snap out at you. A good sense of play with the ideas, and enough poetic sense to come up with lyrics like "void malign" that avoid falling into trite hateful lyrics yet remain aggressive and/or dark. Use of vocal effects has been pulled back so that a bit of a voice emerges, plus the vocals are more on top than before, giving the songs even more identity. The album is both smartly short and varied, so overall very entertaining. Something of a horror science fiction feel to it, trance friendly harsh ebm. Starts strong and stays strong to the end. By the by, the double disc is well worth it with a great roster of re-mixers if you can find it."

Improvised.Electronic.Device. (Deluxe) by Front Line Assembly

"It is interesting that the "deluxe" edition is only available for download. At first I was turned off because this is
the first time in FLA history that a "special" edition was not made available on physical format. It would have been nice to have an "Improvised FLA Device" in my hands. =0/ But my guess is it is to come. Small gripe for an album that delivers the goods. "Shifting Through The Lens", the album's first single released two weeks ago set the bar high and I will tell you that it was the perfect set up for what was to come. Each track on the single explored different concepts and styles very much like this album does. The opening title track is a mindblower! "I.E.D." starts subtle and breaks into a creepy textured smathering of loops and kicks and is just amazing! "Angriff" (also the second track on the single) is probably some of Bill's best writing in years, add a superbly vocalized german chorus with a pulse-pounding guitar thrum and...- oh and by the way the vocals on this album are brilliantly processed in FLA fashion - so many times I caught myself giddy with excitement and actually saying aloud, "wow, that's brilliant!" Now, "Hostage" will be every FLA fanboy's electro dream track - yeah it is. "Release" breaks in to familiar guitar gnashing "Hard-wired" territory. "Shifting Through The Lens" is one of the best and most danceable singles in many years - not unlike "Columbian Necktie" from "FLAvour of the Weak" circa 1997. "Laws of Deception" and "Pressure Wave" wreak more havoc with guitar hits and Leeb's mastery of neurotic vox. Then wack! upside the head come two obligatory and opposing tracks. "Afterlife" is an opus with gorgeous bass lines and omg might I say it beautiful vocals. Now the standout track and for many good reasons. Some fans will be either blatantly ecstatic or loathsome for the fact that Al "Alien" Jourgansen who needs no intro has lended his talents to the track "Stupidity". I for one am impressed with the track. It's pissed off and awesomely devoted to the creators of the defunct and sorely missed "Wax Trax" Label. It does capture the feeling of how industrial music back then really was arguous and honest, not pretentious and copious. It really sends a message to the ruiners of the world today that only Al could ala FLA collab. "Downfall" is like the soundtrack from another planet. Not quite as brilliant (in my opinion) as "Endless Void" the nine minute extravaganza from "Shifting Through The Lens" single, but stands on it's own as the physical cd's closer. NOW: The bonus tracks. "Day of Violence" is stunning! and 8 and a half minute tour de force with a chorus that will come from out of nowhere and bleed your ears dry. Electronic bands out there. This is the band you listened to back in the day that influenced you so hardcore - yea take note they are still the masters of their motif. To close out: "Attack of the Masses" is a perfect punch in the face ender. I really wish the physical album had these tracks because it makes it all perfectly cohesive. Hence why I chose to review the digital deluxe version. The new line up is really strong. Live this will be an eventful show! Let's hope they make it a nice long tour and hit us all with their industrial glory. Thanks guys this album really made me fall in love with the genre all over again. FLA is back!!!"

With an ever growing army of fans, Combichrist is poised to release What The Fuck Is Wrong With You People?, their newest album in 2007. Featuring last year's break out single, "Get Your Body Beat," the album is an explosive barrage of corrosive beats, leering vocals, and acidic melodies. WTFIWWYP? is a high energy, adrenaline charged piece of sonic battery. If you don't find yourself sweaty, naked, out of breath, and bleeding by the time the album is finished, you weren't listening!
